52 Profiles by Kyle Steed

——————review

recently i found this designer/illustrator from Texas. i really like his works and i enjoyed looking through his project “52 Profiles”. its a collection of profiles of 52 different people. obviously the main thing that usually everyone notices when we look at the person from the side is persons nose and this project shows a really wide range of different shaped noses, whits is actually funny as well.

i like the style of drawing:nice feel of line, very minimalistic and quite realistic pictures.

also looking through the whole digital portfolio i was not that impressed, i was expecting to find something a bit different, but i was left a bit dissapointed.

Mulholland dr. by David Lynch
I think, everyone knows that David Lynch can mess up your mind. and he did it to me with this amazing movie. i heard a lot about this movie: some good and some bad reviews. so wen i decided to finally watch it myself i was left with a pleasant astonishment in the end.
the fact that everything is so misterious and it doesnt get more clear through the whole movie plays with your mind and leaves a viewer very confused. plot is twisted and to be honest- very surreal as well.
i could rate this movie 9- out of 10, just because i enjoyed it a lot, but i could not watch it any time soon again. it quite heavy film and it requires a lot of concentration.

i forgot to explain the idea of my animation. so here we are. i was listening to Ellie Goulding song “saltskin” that i had to base my animation on and i was trying to imagine a picture of what im going to do. its a sad song, and i was actualy seeing birds as the main characters in my video, and what can be more sad than a penguin? penguin is a bird and it cant even fly. i think its pretty sad. then i remembered this animated movie “the pebble and the penguin”, its a beautiful love story whitch i took as my inspiration. main idea is that the penguin has to bring the nicest stone to a female penguin that she would marry the male. in my animation “the nicest stone” is a diamond. it is actually a nice stone, but anyway, it looks a bit like a nice peace of ice as well. and boom, penguins live on ice!

A picture shows a poster created by Fons Hickmann that was created for Clothing Collection. It is a very simple picture printed by using silkscreen technique. Lack of details and black and white contrast stands out from the crowd. Very small writing makes the viewer want to come closer and find out what it is all about. In my opinion, designer took a really brave step and proved that the even extremely simple and primitive image can work well for advertising.
Also, we can see that author chose to represent the idea of the event thoug the image and give just basic information (such as date, time and place) written in words.
i think this work is well thought through and perfectly functions as a poster

that is the final piece for my motion module. i know that i could have done it better, but im pretty happy with a result. i did not make any changes on actual animation, Marc showed me how to animate every diamond separatelly, but i could not get the timing of them flickering right so i just left it. because this time i did ithis animation without any help. i think it was really useful for me, i learned basics of After effects and after this i can always learn more while playing around. im planning to make a short animation for my friends birthday, if i make it in time, ill post it on here. i have couple good ideas but i might not have that much time.

deadline of motion classes is coming faster than i expected. this is what ive done so far. still wothout a sound and needs some correcting. i chose to do video for eliie goulding song “salt skin”.

three illustrations out of five-1.120mm x 200mm illustration for a poem. 2. illustration for say something series. 3. i would like to show my poster that ive done for ‘say something’, but i left it in Uni today, oh well, next time. 4. 110mm x 95mm illustration for fable about a stag and sailors 5. i havent done that one yet, hopefully ill find some time tomorrow.

for this module ive used three different styles of drawing and i really enjoyed every minute that ive spent working on these illustrations. i think they work well and im quite satisfied with the result

im redesining the cover for my fetish island book at the moment. thats what ive done so far.

however, looking for the right paper in town took couple of hours from my life, so i have less time for doing everything that needs to be done. hopefully ill make it in time and tomorrow ll have 10 ‘fetish island’ books ready to go to Leeds book fair.

ive found this in my drawer. i thinks its a result of the workshop that Robert organised for us in september. time is running too fast - i remember that day like it was yeasterday but its spring now. im scared…

my friend showed me this video today. i actually love it. animation reminds David Shrigley’s style and it works very well with the song. Ian Stevenson is now included into my favourites list.
